Osun APC Accuses Adeleke of Promoting Violence Ahead of 2026 Governorship Election

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused Governor Ademola Adeleke of allegedly promoting political violence in a bid to secure re-election in the forthcoming governorship election.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by the party's Director of Media and Information, Mogaji Kola Olabisi, the APC claimed that recent disturbances in parts of the state were linked to supporters of the ruling administration following the party's "Walk-To-Win" campaign held in the Ife Federal Constituency.

According to the opposition party, the incidents are indications that Governor Adeleke and his political associates are becoming increasingly concerned about their electoral prospects ahead of the 2026 governorship poll.

The APC also criticized the governor over comments allegedly made against the Osun State Commissioner of Police, accusing him of attempting to influence security operations in the state.

The party further alleged that some individuals declared wanted by security agencies were being protected within government circles and challenged the governor to publicly address the allegations.

In the statement, the APC accused the Adeleke administration of failing to maintain peace and security across the state, alleging that political violence had increased since the governor assumed office in 2022.

The opposition party referenced the killing of Hon. Remi Abass, the reinstated Chairman of Irewole Local Government Area, claiming that some individuals connected to the incident are currently facing trial in Abuja.

The APC also alleged that there were plans by political actors within the ruling camp to recruit external elements to influence the outcome of the forthcoming election through violence. However, the party did not provide evidence to support the claim.

The statement further described Governor Adeleke's administration as ineffective, accusing it of policy inconsistencies and poor governance. The APC maintained that the state requires a new direction and expressed confidence that its expected governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), would emerge victorious in the next election.

The party concluded by warning against any attempt to use intimidation or violence during the electoral process, insisting that such tactics would not succeed in the forthcoming governorship election.

As of the time of filing this report, the Osun State Government had not issued an official response to the allegations raised by the APC.
