‎Osun APC Links Collapsed Accord Party's Campaign Podium at Ijebu-Jesa to Adeleke's Re-election Prospects

‎The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has reacted to the collapse of a campaign podium during a political event attended by Governor Ademola Adeleke in Ijebu-Jesa, describing the incident as a sign of growing challenges facing the governor's re-election bid.

‎In a statement issued on Wednesday by the party's Director of Media and Information, Mogaji Kola Olabisi, the APC claimed that the podium collapsed during the inauguration of canvassers for the Accord Party ahead of the August 15, 2026 governorship election in Oriade Local Government Area.

‎According to the opposition party, the incident left several party members and leaders injured, with some reportedly taken to hospitals for treatment. The APC stated that the condition of Governor Adeleke could not be immediately confirmed following the incident.

‎The party also alleged that the event was held despite an earlier directive by the Osun State Police Command suspending political activities in some local government areas due to security concerns. The APC said it complied with the police directive, while accusing the governor and his party of disregarding it.

‎The opposition party described the governor's actions as a demonstration of disregard for constituted authority and the rule of law. It further argued that the incident reflected the consequences of ignoring security advice from law enforcement agencies.

‎While expressing sympathy for those injured in the accident, the APC wished them a speedy recovery and urged political actors to prioritize safety during campaign activities.

‎The statement also contained political criticisms of the Adeleke administration, with the APC claiming that the development signaled increasing difficulties for the governor ahead of the forthcoming governorship election.

‎"The collapse of the podium is a pointer that the administration has lost momentum and faces significant challenges in its bid for re-election," the statement said.

‎The APC further maintained that Governor Adeleke's administration has struggled with governance and argued that the state requires a new direction after the expiration of the current administration's tenure.

‎As of the time of filing this report, neither the Osun State Government nor officials of the Accord Party had issued an official response to the APC's claims regarding the incident.
