Owa Adesuyi Haastrup Meets Security Chiefs, Calls for Peaceful Governorship Election in Osun




 


The Owa Obokun Adimula and Paramount Ruler of Ijesaland, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Clement Adesuyi Haastrup, has charged security agencies to remain vigilant and professional in safeguarding lives and property before, during, and after the August 15, 2026 Osun State governorship election.


The monarch gave the charge during a security meeting with heads of security agencies, convened to review measures aimed at preventing electoral violence, killings, and other security threats, particularly across Ijesaland.


Addressing the security chiefs, Owa Haastrup commended their commitment to maintaining peace and order, urging them to remain focused, impartial, and dedicated to their constitutional responsibilities throughout the election period.


He also expressed concern over the activities of bandits and cult groups, stressing the need for intensified efforts to curb criminal activities and sustain the prevailing peace in Ijesaland.


Speaking on behalf of their respective agencies, the security chiefs emphasized the importance of stronger collaboration between security personnel and traditional institutions, noting that effective intelligence gathering and timely information sharing are critical to preventing crime and ensuring peaceful elections.


Following the meeting, the Owa Obokun held a private session with members of the Owa's Security Committee and the security chiefs to deliberate on additional strategies for enhancing security across the region.


Representatives of the Nigerian Air Force, Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS), National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) were among those in attendance.
