The Osun State APC Governorship Campaign Council has described the reported killing of Olalekan Dauda Oyeyemi, popularly known as Emir Ajagungbade, in Ile-Ife on Sunday as a disturbing development, alleging that the incident may be connected to factional struggles within the political structure associated with the Accord Party and Governor Ademola Adeleke.
In a statement signed by the Head of the Media and Publicity Committee of the Campaign Council, Engr. Oluremi Omowaiye, on September 13, 2026, the APC alleged that the killing was linked to rival political groups and urged security agencies to investigate what it described as networks of political thuggery operating in the state.
The Council specifically called for the immediate arrest and investigation of Nurudeen Alowonle and Olayemi Ojo, popularly known as Sibi, following allegations contained in eyewitness accounts cited by the APC.
The Campaign Council alleged that Ajagungbade had previously faced serious criminal allegations, including murder and terrorism charges, and was later declared wanted by the police after allegedly jumping bail.
It further alleged that despite his reported wanted status, Ajagungbade subsequently sought refuge at the Osun State Government House in Okefia, Osogbo.
The APC also made allegations against Alowonle, claiming that he was arrested in 2024 with a Beretta pistol but that the matter was subsequently discontinued. The Council alleged that both men had been declared wanted in connection with violent incidents involving APC members.
The statement further raised questions over an alleged plan by the Adeleke administration to replace Alowonle with Ajagungbade as Chairman of the Osun State Park Management System.
According to the APC Campaign Council, the alleged political rivalry surrounding the proposed change could have contributed to the circumstances leading to Sunday's violence.
The Council said eyewitnesses had allegedly identified Alowonle and Sibi as persons connected to the attack, stressing that the allegations should be investigated by the police.
The APC also expressed concern that political violence was allegedly continuing in Osun State despite the conclusion of the August 15 governorship election.
“The election is over. There is therefore no justification whatsoever for the continued use of violence, intimidation or political thuggery,” the Council stated.
The Campaign Council called on the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to strengthen the protection of lives and property across the state, particularly for APC members and other citizens who may be vulnerable to political violence.
It also urged security agencies to intensify intelligence gathering, identify and apprehend individuals involved in political violence and dismantle what it described as political thuggery networks across Osun.
The APC further called for intensified efforts to recover illegal firearms and ammunition, particularly from politically exposed persons and their associates.
The Campaign Council said the APC remained committed to democracy, peace and the rule of law, while urging residents to remain calm and law-abiding.
