Veteran Nigerian music icon, Chief Commander Evangelist (Prof.) Ebenezer Obey-Fabiyi, MFR, KCW, has celebrated the 10th anniversary of the installation of Asiwaju Olayinka Yinka Fasuyi and his wife, Yeye Asiwaju Dr. Olubisi Fasuyi, with the release of a special 2-in-1 audio CD highlighting their decade of service and achievements.
The music legend, in an appreciation message, congratulated the couple on their 10 years in the Ijesaland chieftaincy institution, describing their journey as one marked by dignity, integrity and positive impact.
According to Obey, the late Owa Obokun Adimula and Paramount Ruler of Ijesaland, Oba Dr. Gabriel Adekunle Aromolaran II, CFR, LL.D., conferred the titles of Asiwaju and Yeye Asiwaju of Ilesa on the couple on Saturday, October 22, 2016.
He added that four years later, they were elevated to become the first-ever Asiwaju and Yeye Asiwaju of Ijesaland, a development he described as a significant milestone in the history of the traditional institution.
Obey said the special audio CD was released to commemorate the anniversary and celebrate the couple’s contributions to Ijesaland and beyond.
Obey Links Fasuyi’s World Travels to His Famous Song
Beyond their traditional leadership and community service, the music icon’s tribute also celebrates Fasuyi’s extensive travels across the world.
Obey noted that the Asiwaju had visited countries across all six continents—Africa, Europe, Asia, North America, South America and Oceania—with the number of countries visited reportedly reaching at least 130.
He disclosed that Fasuyi intends to increase the figure to 150 countries.
Reflecting on the possible inspiration behind Fasuyi’s passion for global travel, Obey recalled releasing his hit album, Board Members, in 1972, which featured the popular song, “Ajala Travel All Over the World.”
The veteran musician said he never imagined that the song might plant a seed in the mind of a young Yinka Fasuyi, inspiring him to pursue international travel and seek to surpass the records associated with celebrated Nigerian travellers Bisi Ajala, who reportedly visited 87 countries, and another traveller credited with 124 countries.
Obey’s tribute presents Fasuyi’s reported record of visiting at least 130 countries as a remarkable personal achievement.
Sixth Special Release for Fasuyi Since 2018
The music legend also disclosed that the anniversary audio CD represents his sixth special release for Fasuyi since 2018.
He described the Asiwaju as one of his most loyal, dogged and unwavering music ambassadors, noting that Fasuyi continues to promote and carry his music brand across different parts of the world.
Obey expressed appreciation for Fasuyi’s loyalty and support, while celebrating the couple’s decade of service within the Ijesaland traditional institution.
He extended his congratulations to the couple on behalf of himself and joined the people of Ijesaland, both at home and in the diaspora, as well as royal fathers, friends and associates, in celebrating the milestone.
The tribute concludes with renewed goodwill to Asiwaju Olayinka Fasuyi and Yeye Asiwaju Dr. Olubisi Fasuyi as they mark 10 years of their journey in the chieftaincy institution.
