TRIBUNAL JUDGEMENT: Protests Rock Osogbo

There was a protest in Osogbo the capital of Osun State on Wednesday the 27th March, 2019, over the judgement of the Election Petition Tribunal.

The protesters came together under the banner of Osun Concerned Citizens and were seen with placards with inscriptions describing their displeasure with the dissenting judgement.

The protest started around 12 noon at Ayetoro junction passing through Ayetoro junction and ending at the Freedom Park.

The Osun PDP in Osun had earlier alleged the APC of planning to sponsor protests against the election tribunal verdict, an allegation which the APC tagged as “fabrication” in a Press Release signed by Hon. Lani Baderinwa, the Supervisor for the Ministry of Information and Strategy wherein it was Stated  that the government of Osun or the party, All Progressive Congress (APC) is not in any way considering protest neither against the judiciary nor against the majority judgment. Holding to the dissenting judgment delivered by the Chairman of the tribunal himself, Justice Muhammad Sirajo which dismissed the petition filed by PDP and its defeated gubernatorial candidate, Senator Ademola Adeleke against the popular victory of Governor Gboyega Oyetola as the greatest protest.

"The government and our party hold the strong belief that there is no other protest against the majority judgment of the tribunal than the minority judgment which has immediately corrected the miscarriage of justice in the lead verdict of the tribunal". Hon. Baderinwa said.

Recall that the tribunal held that the rerun election conducted on September 27 was illegal. Mr Oyetola has, however, proceeded to appeal the judgement as he remains in office.
