Residents of Ilesa city had been enjoying a brief return to a sense of normality before the announcement on Friday that State government has ordered the total lockdown of four of the local government areas of the state, namely Ilesa East, Ilesa West, Atakumosa East and Atakumosa West for seven days starting from Tuesday, July 7th, 2020.The news was greeted with dismay but also a sense of inevitability.

The Chairman of Ilesa East local Government, Otunba Akeem Adesoji Olowoopejobori has therefore appealed to the good people of his constituency to cooperate with the government by observing the 7-day lockdown directive, saying that the people should not be upset but should realize that the decision of the government is in the best interest of the people as it is better to be safe than sorry and prevention is better than cure.

The Council boss said that the people of Ilesa East should as a matter of duty comply with the directive, noting that the decision is aimed at containing the spread of the virus in the city and avoid community transmission of the dreaded Coronavirus. He reminded the people that the lockdown would be total as residents and citizens of the city will not have opportunity to go to worship centres and markets during the period. They will only be allowed to shop within their neighbourhood.

Furthermore, Olowoopejobori elaborated that there would be no vehicular movement but only those on essential duties such as health, security personnel, media, telecommunication officials will be allowed to move as he appealed to the people to compliment the efforts of Governor Gboyega Oyetola in the fight to curtail the spread of COVID-19 in the state.

Concluding, Olowoopejobori urged the people to continue to embrace the use of face/mouth mask, use hand sanitizer, observe social distancing and maintain high level of personal hygiene.
