Rotary Club of Ilesa Metropolitan Embarks on Tree Planting..Starts the exercise from Ijebu-jesa.






The Rotary Club of Ilesa Metropolitan District 9125 has in line with its programme for the year flagged off the planting of trees in designated areas of Ijesaland in line with the global program of preservation of the environment.

The 7th President of the Club Rotarian Olu Olujide, supported by Chief Mrs. Dupe Ajayi-Gbadebo, the Special Guest of the occasion led the Executive Committee members of the Club to the palace of Elegboro of Ijebu-jesa His Royal Majesty, Oba (Engr.) Moses Oluwafemi Agunsoye II. Also in attendance were the Oniwoye of Iwoye-Ijesa, His Royal Majesty, Oba Amos Adewunmi Ogidiolu and the Olodogbo of Odogbo-Ijesa.




Speaking at the event, Rotarian Olujide stated that support for the environment is one of the seven areas of rotary service and the exercise is meant to revive the tree planting culture.


"Tree-planting has become a cornerstone of many environmental campaigns in recent years. The call to plant trees is everywhere, seen as a simple and effective way to help reduce the impact of carbon emissions and restore natural ecosystems.  Perhaps the most ambitious example is the 1 trillion trees campaign launched by the World Economic Forum in Davos in January 2020 in support of the UN’s Decade of Ecosystem Restoration, which aims to restore, protect, or plant 1 trillion trees by 2030." He said.




He highlighted that the Rotary Club is committed to support environment and used the medium to call on every individual and organization in Ijesaland to contribute to tree planting to restore and sustain the ecosystem.




In her remarks, the Special Guest of Honor of the occasion, Chief Mrs. Dupe Ajayi-Gbadebo, emphasized that trees have a crucial role in removing air pollutants from atmosphere, while at the same time releasing oxygen.




Elegboro of Ijebu-jesa His Royal Majesty, Oba (Engr.) Moses Oluwafemi Agunsoye II pinpointed the pandemic-related shortages of lumber and the urgent need of this generation to replace them by planting trees for the use of the coming generation.





The highlight of the occasion was the symbolic planting of tree around the palace of the Elegboro of Ijebujesa and the Ijebu-jesa town hall by the Elegboro of Ijebu-jesa His Royal Majesty, Oba (Engr.) Moses Oluwafemi Agunsoye II. Also in attendance were the Oniwoye of Iwoye-Ijesa, His Royal Majesty, Oba Amos Adewunmi Ogidiolu and the Olodogbo of Odogbo-Ijesa and  the Special Guest of Honor of the occasion, Chief Mrs. Dupe Ajayi-Gbadebo.


Also present at the occasion were Rot. Aduroja, Past President Adegbola Benson OlaOluwa, Rot. Olu Adeyeye, Rot. Oladayo Folorunso, Rot. Segun Oginni, Rot. Seun Aluko, Mrs. Adepeju Gbadebo Iyaloja of Ijebu-jesa, Chief Olu Adesola, Chief Mrs Kolawole, Hon. Gbenga Oni and High Chief Fasoyin.
