The Ijesa Mineral ResourcesDevelopment Forum (IMRDF) held a training workshop with the theme " Towards Ensuring Equitable Distribution of Mining Dividends" on Friday 5th May, 2023 at Ilesa Elites Club, Ilesa, Osun State.
The workshop was attended by 20 participants drawn from Atakumosa East local government, with a framework for training potential instructors to enable them to train other people in their localities in the context of implementing the vision, mission and the future course of actions of the IMRDF.
During this highly interactive, train-the-trainers sessions, papers were delivered as Dr. Adigun Adeoye delved into the 'Mission, Activities, Impact and Future Course of Actions of the IMRDF, Prof. Gbenga Okunlola, the Dean of the Faculty of Geology, University of Ibadan diligently exposed the 'Mining Stakeholders Roles, Rights, Community Development Agreements and New Perspectives' , Mr. Femi Fadare's paper was on 'Health and Environmental Issues on Mining, while Comrade Bayo Olatunji of the Federal Ministry of Mines and Steel Development readily provided information on the experiences.of the Ministry on the activities of miners and stakeholders in Ijesaland vis-Ã -vis the vision of the Ministry to transform the Ijesaland Gold deposits into an irresistible mining destination for global capital, attracting foreign direct investment to grow the sector to an optimum level.
The concluding part of the sessions was the appointment and inauguration of the Atakumosa East local government's IMRDF Consultative Committee where Hon. Rotimi Olatunbosun from Iperindo emerged as the Chairman, Prince Taiwo Adeyeye from Odo-Ijesa, the Vice Chairman, Prince Adekanmi Awe from Ipole-Ijesa, the Public Relation Officer and Mr. Femi Egunjobi from Ise-Ijesa as the Coordinator.
