Shock and grief have trailed the death of a young interior designer, Deborah Moses, popularly known as Deb’rah Porsche, who was allegedly murdered by her ex-boyfriend, Lintex Ogale, in Lagos late Wednesday night.
According to eyewitnesses and relatives, the incident happened months after Deborah walked away from the abusive relationship, only for the suspect to keep threatening her life.
It was gathered that Ogale, said to be from Otukpo in Benue State, disguised himself as a dispatch rider to gain entry into the estate where Deborah lived. When security men raised suspicions, he reportedly scaled the fence and went straight to her apartment.
Sources said he first tried to cause an explosion by tampering with her cooking gas pipe. When that failed, he forced his way inside the house and allegedly stabbed her multiple times until she died.
A relative of the deceased revealed that Deborah had ended the relationship over a year ago because of domestic violence, but Ogale allegedly never let her be.
“They have broken up for more than a year now, but this guy refused to move on. He keeps making statements like, ‘If I don’t have you, nobody will. If I don’t marry you, blood will flow,’” the relative told journalists.
Deborah, who had just completed her National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), was said to be gradually building her career as an interior designer before her life was cut short.
Neighbours, who heard the commotion, managed to overpower the suspect after the attack and handed him over to the police. He is currently in custody.
Rights activists, relatives, and neighbours have since called for a thorough investigation into the killing, insisting that Deborah must not die in vain and that the case should not be swept under the carpet.
