Chaos broke out in Lagos on Monday as residents of Oworonshoki took to the streets and blocked the Third Mainland Bridge, protesting the midnight demolition of their properties allegedly carried out by the Lagos State Government.
The protesters, chanting solidarity songs, accused the government of rendering them homeless without prior notice or compensation. They demanded justice and immediate redress for the destruction of their homes and businesses.
The demonstration caused massive traffic gridlock on one of the busiest routes in Lagos, leaving motorists stranded for hours. Eyewitnesses told Lagos Reporters that the protest stretched traffic for several kilometers as security operatives tried to disperse the angry crowd.
One resident, speaking in frustration, said: “They came at midnight to destroy our homes without warning. Families have been thrown out, and yet no one is talking about compensation. This is injustice.”
The protest has fueled public outrage, with many Lagosians criticizing the government’s timing and approach, especially amid harsh economic realities.
As of press time, the Lagos State Government had not issued an official response.
Lagos Reporters will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as events unfold.
