‎Who's Prof. Samuel Iyiola Oni, New Oba Odo of Ilesa

‎Professor Samuel Iyiola Oni was born in Ilesa, Osun State on April 19, 1959, and as of October 4, 2025, he is 66 years old.

‎Professor Samuel Iyiola Oni was on Friday installed as the new High Chief Oba-Odo of llesa by His Imperial Majesty Owa Clement Adesuyi Haastrup Ajimoko III, Paramount Ruler of Ijesaland.

KAKAKIOODUA recall that the Paramount Ruler of Ijesaland, Oba Clement Adesuyi Haastrup, Ajimoko III removed Chief Busuyi Gbadamosi as the Oba-Odo of Ilesa in a statement personally signed by him on Saturday, September 27 2025.

The removal of Chief Busuyi Gbadamosi according to the statement is not unconnected with his illegal and unlawful removal of two (2) electric transformers, 300KVA and 500KVA from the post office in Atakumosa Market sometime in 2023 during the reign of Oba Gabriel Adekunle Aromolaran.

Professor Samuel Iyiola Oni is a Professor of Geography with specialization in Transportation, Inland Waterways Management, Coastal Zone Management, Physical Distribution and Logistics and Spatial Planning.

‎He attended the prestigious and premier University of Ibadan between 1980 and 1983 where he obtained B.Sc. (Hons.) Degree in Geography. He proceeded to the University of Lagos for his postgraduate studies and obtained M.A. and Ph.D. Degrees in Geography with specialization in Transportation in 1985 and 1992 respectively.

‎He has since been lecturing and researching Transportation and Logistics Planning, Urban Transportation Development, Planning and Infrastructure Management, Environmental Issues, Physical Distribution and Spatial Planning related courses both at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels of the Department of Geography, University of Lagos.

‎Prof. Iyiola Oni has, within the period of his academic career, successfully supervised 10 Ph.D. candidates and over 100 M.Sc. and Professional (MTP&M) candidates who have distinguished themselves very well both in the academic world and other areas of professional calling.

‎
‎Prof. Oni is a prolific writer, versatile academic and outstanding researcher and has to his credit over 60 academic publications in local and international learned journals and has also attended over 100 local and international learned conferences.

‎Prof. Oni is a Fellow, Chartered Institute of Transport and Logistics, London, UK; Fellow, Nigerian Institute of Shipping (NIS); Fellow, Certified Institute of Shipping, Member, Association of Nigerian Geographers (ANG) and Member, American Association of Geographers (AAG).

‎He is a winner of many scholarships, foreign fellowships and awards including Institute of Atmospheric Research, Boulder, Colorado, USA in 2005.

‎As the new Oba Odo of Ilesa, he has assumed the position of the Secretary of the Iwarefa-mefa, the kingmakers in Ilesa, otherwise known as Ijesa Senate comprising of the Obanla of Ilesa, Ogboni of Ipole-Ijesa, Ogboni of Ibokun, Ogboni of Ijebu-Jesa and the Ogboni of Ilesa.
