The Ilesa Unit Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), RS11.12, on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, carried out a motorist welfare and safety enlightenment exercise aimed at promoting responsible road use during the end-of-year festive period.
The exercise, which featured the distribution of customized FRSC table water and road safety flyers to motorists, was conducted along the busy Ilesa–Ife Road at Exit-4 Junction, Ilesa. The location is a critical traffic corridor known for heavy vehicular movement, especially during festive seasons.
The initiative was implemented in line with the directive of the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, mni, and formed part of the strategic objectives of the ongoing Operation Zero Tolerance Special Patrol. It was designed to address key factors such as driver fatigue, stress, and distraction, which are major causes of road traffic crashes, particularly during long-distance travel.
The operation was personally led by the Unit Commander, Assistant Corps Commander (ACC) Bashir A. Jimoh, alongside the CRC Operations, with the active participation of officers and marshals of the command. The hands-on leadership approach highlighted the FRSC’s commitment to proactive, people-oriented strategies targeted at reducing crashes and fatalities on Nigerian roads.
During the exercise, motorists received free FRSC-branded table water to help reduce travel-induced tension, promote alertness, and improve driver comfort. Safety flyers containing vital road safety messages were also distributed to reinforce continuous adherence to traffic rules beyond the point of engagement.
Addressing motorists at the scene, ACC Jimoh emphasized the theme of Operation Zero Tolerance, urging road users to “Take Responsibility for Your Safety: Stop Distracted Driving.” He cautioned against risky behaviours such as the use of mobile phones while driving, speeding, inattentiveness, and other avoidable actions that often lead to crashes. He further encouraged motorists to obey traffic regulations, use seat belts, and prioritize the safety of all road users.
The exercise also featured brief but impactful interactive sessions between FRSC officers and drivers on safe and defensive driving practices, the importance of rest breaks during long journeys, and general road safety compliance.
The outreach attracted considerable public attention and was covered by media practitioners from various radio stations, helping to amplify the safety messages to a wider audience beyond the exercise location.
Many motorists commended the FRSC for the initiative, describing it as timely, humane, and effective. According to them, the welfare gesture created a calm and friendly atmosphere that enhanced receptiveness to safety education.
The RS11.12 Ilesa Unit Command reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining preventive and enlightenment-driven interventions as part of its contribution to the success of Operation Zero Tolerance and the broader FRSC mandate of ensuring safer roads and eliminating road traffic deaths.
