Controversial Nigerian singer, Habeed Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has been arraigned before the Federal High Court in Ota, Ogun State, over a nine-count criminal charge.
Portable was brought before the court on Monday following allegations bordering on assault, theft, causing harm, and resisting arrest. The charges were confirmed by the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi.
The arraignment followed the circulation of a viral video on Sunday showing the singer in police custody. The development was reportedly linked to a complaint lodged by his estranged partner, Ashabi Simple.
According to the prosecution, the singer allegedly attacked Ashabi Simple alongside several police officers and other individuals at his bar located in the Iyana Ilogbo area of Ogun State on New Year’s Day. The prosecution also named other alleged victims in the case as Ileyemi Damilola, Akinyanju Oluwabusayomi, Olowu Olumide, Demilade Ogunniyi, and Ebuka Odah.
Portable was further accused of stealing a Mercedes-Benz E300, valued at ₦12 million, belonging to Ileyemi Damilola. The vehicle was said to be associated with a car dealer identified as Wally Dex Auto.
During the court proceedings, two siblings of Ashabi Simple testified as witnesses to the alleged assault, although Ashabi herself was not present in court.
The police also accused the singer of obstructing and assaulting a female police inspector, Ogungbe Olayemi, while she was carrying out her official duties.
In his ruling, the presiding judge declined to grant Portable bail, citing the absence of the allegedly assaulted police officer in court. The judge stated that the officer must be presented before the court to enable proper consideration of the bail application.
As a result, Portable was remanded in custody, with the court adjourning the case to January 19 for fresh consideration of the bail request.
