‎Tension is brewing in Ilesa, Osun State following the alleged destruction of a seven-acre cassava farm reportedly valued at ₦5 million.

‎The farm, owned by Prince Adebanjo Adebiyi, is located at the Leventis Foundation in Ilesa. According to the owner, the farmland was allegedly destroyed by suspected Fulani herders operating from Obokun Avenue, Ilesa East Local Governmet, a nearby settlement between the night of February 10 and 11, 2026.

‎Prince Adebiyi disclosed that the cassava farm, established in August 2025, was developed primarily to promote food security and support cassava processing in the area. He lamented that the destruction has dealt a major financial setback to the project, which spans over seven acres.

‎The farmer estimated the total loss at about ₦5 million, describing the damage as extensive. He further revealed that one of the herders allegedly involved had pleaded to settle the matter with a payment of ₦500,000 — an offer he described as grossly inadequate compared to the scale of investment and loss incurred.

‎As of the time of filing this report, local authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the incident. Community members have expressed concern over recurring clashes between farmers and herders, calling for urgent intervention to prevent further destruction and ensure peaceful coexistence.

‎The incident adds to growing concerns over farm security and agricultural sustainability in parts of the state.
