A growing political dispute in Osun State has deepened as five-term member of the House of Representatives, Wole Oke, strongly refuted allegations of misconduct levelled against him by lawyer and politician Pelumi Olajengbesi.
Olajengbesi, who is widely believed to be positioning himself for the Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency seat currently occupied by Oke, had accused the veteran lawmaker of poor representation, contract racketeering, and failure to execute key constituency projects. He further claimed to possess convincing evidence to substantiate the allegations.
However, developments following the accusations suggest the claims may not be as conclusive as initially portrayed.
In a measured but firm response, Oke released visual documentation highlighting several infrastructural projects and empowerment initiatives reportedly carried out across the constituency. The lawmaker maintained that his record in office contradicts assertions of non-performance.
Oke also challenged his accuser to submit any credible evidence to appropriate investigative and anti-corruption agencies rather than litigating the matter in the court of public opinion.
Political observers note that allegations of this nature are not uncommon during pre-election periods. However, such claims often gain more traction when accompanied by formal petitions or institutional investigations — both of which are currently absent.
On the ground, Oke’s support base appears largely intact, with many constituents publicly acknowledging his role in facilitating employment opportunities, empowerment programmes, and infrastructure projects throughout his multiple terms in office.
Within Osun’s political landscape, some stakeholders view the controversy through a strategic lens, citing the timing of the accusations — coming shortly after Oke’s defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and as the electoral cycle approaches.
Supporters of the lawmaker have also alleged possible political coordination behind the media campaign against him — claims Olajengbesi has not formally responded to.
For now, the matter remains largely confined to media exchanges and social commentary rather than a substantiated legal contest.
