Residents of Ore, the headquarters of Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State, were thrown into shock and sadness on Sunday after an abandoned baby was discovered along Power Line Street in the community.
The infant, whose identity and parentage are yet to be determined, was reportedly found by residents on the afternoon of March 8, 2026.
According to eyewitnesses, the baby was allegedly left at the location at about 1 p.m. by an unidentified individual who quickly fled the area.
Witnesses said the helpless child was spotted lying alone before concerned residents quickly intervened to ensure the baby's safety while efforts were made to alert the appropriate authorities.
“The child was seen lying helplessly before good-hearted residents stepped in to ensure the baby was safe while efforts were made to alert the authorities,” one eyewitness recounted.
A resident who spoke on condition of anonymity described the situation as deeply troubling, noting that many people in the neighbourhood expressed sorrow and concern over the incident.
“It was a very painful sight. People gathered around and many were saddened that such a small baby could be left alone like that,” the resident said.
The matter was subsequently reported to the police, who responded to the scene to assess the circumstances surrounding the abandoned infant.
A police source in Ore confirmed that the incident had been brought to the attention of security authorities, adding that further steps were being taken as part of the investigation.
Meanwhile, residents have expressed hope that the baby will receive proper care and protection while authorities work to uncover the circumstances behind the abandonment.
