Osun Police Clarify Arrest of Soladoye Keji Over Alleged N8.5m Fraud

The Nigeria Police Force, Osun State Police Command, has clarified the circumstances surrounding the arrest and detention of Mr. Soladoye Fasanjo Keji, popularly known as Hon. Soladoye Ifasanjo Keji, following public concerns raised by a group identified as the Concerned Youths of Odo Otin Local Government Area.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Ojelabi, the command said the suspect was arrested on March 7, 2026, at about 7:45 p.m. in the Faji area of Okuku, Osun State.

According to the police, the arrest followed a petition dated February 25, 2026, submitted by the law firm Atelele & Egbedinini Chambers on behalf of Damilare Eniade Francis.

The petition reportedly alleged serious offences against Keji, including obtaining money under false pretences involving the sum of N8.5 million, criminal intimidation and threat to life.

Police authorities explained that the money was allegedly transferred to the suspect in November 2025 for the procurement and supply of Ramadan food packages meant for distribution to vulnerable residents in Osun State during the holy month.

However, the petitioner claimed that the items were never supplied despite the payment made.

The command further disclosed that the suspect had previously been invited by the police on several occasions to respond to the allegations but allegedly failed to honour the invitations, which prompted his eventual arrest.

The police maintained that the operation was conducted in line with established legal procedures and was based on prima facie evidence contained in the petition.

The command also dismissed claims suggesting that the arrest was politically motivated, insisting that the police act strictly on credible complaints, available evidence and due process rather than political considerations.

Authorities confirmed that investigations are ongoing and that the suspect is being treated in accordance with constitutional provisions, including his right to legal representation. The case, according to the police, will be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.

The Osun State Police Command appealed to community leaders, stakeholders and residents of Odo Otin Local Government Area to remain calm and allow the legal process to take its course. It also urged anyone with relevant information to come forward to assist with the ongoing investigation.
