APC Raises Alarm Over Alleged NULGE Protest Plan in Osogbo, Alerts Security Agencies

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on security agencies to remain vigilant over an alleged protest being planned by the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) in Osogbo.

In a press statement issued on March 19, 2026, the party alleged that the leadership of NULGE in the state is mobilising members across local government areas to stage a protest at branches of the United Bank for Africa (UBA) in the state capital on Monday, March 23.

According to the APC, intelligence sources claimed that each local government branch of the union had been directed to provide about 20 staff members for the planned demonstration. The party further alleged that the protest could turn violent, with claims of possible disruption of banking activities and threats to workers.

The APC also accused unnamed political figures within the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke of backing the proposed protest, alleging that logistics support had been made available to facilitate the action.

The party expressed concern over what it described as a pattern of actions by the union, referencing a previous prolonged strike by NULGE in the state. It criticised the union’s leadership for allegedly allowing itself to be influenced by political interests.

While urging security agencies—including the police, Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC)—to take proactive steps, the APC also called on parents and guardians to discourage their wards from participating in any activity that could disrupt public peace.

The statement further questioned the rationale behind the planned protest, particularly in light of ongoing legal proceedings related to local government administration and autonomy.

As of the time of filing this report, neither NULGE nor the Osun State Government had issued an official response to the allegations.
