Mob Attacks Amotekun Office in Osun, Officers Injured, Firearms Stolen

A mob on Monday evening allegedly attacked the Egbedore Local Government Command headquarters of the Osun State Security Network Agency in Awo, Osun State, leaving several operatives injured and firearms reportedly stolen.

The incident was said to have occurred around 8:00 p.m. when a civilian ran into the Amotekun office seeking refuge after being chased by suspected hoodlums.

According to reports, the victim had earlier been returning from a local eatery when he encountered an individual linked to a previous disagreement believed to have stemmed from a football-related altercation the day before.

The Public Relations Officer of the agency disclosed that eyewitnesses alleged the suspect mobilised a group of attackers armed with machetes and other dangerous weapons.

“The victim reportedly escaped and ran into the Amotekun facility, where officers on duty intervened and provided protection,” the spokesperson said.

The situation, however, escalated when the attackers allegedly regrouped and returned in large numbers, launching a coordinated assault on the command headquarters.

During the attack, the mob was said to have vandalised parts of the facility, destroyed equipment, and injured officers who attempted to defend the premises.

Sources further revealed that the assailants breached the facility, allegedly attacked the victim again, and carted away firearms belonging to the command.

Amotekun operatives were eventually able to repel the attackers and restore calm in the area.

Five suspects were reportedly arrested in connection with the incident and have been transferred to the Nigeria Police Force divisional headquarters in Awo for further investigation.
