Lagos Taskforce Seizes 70 Motorcycles in Crackdown on Illegal Okada Operations

Operatives of the Lagos State Taskforce have confiscated no fewer than 70 commercial motorcycles during a coordinated enforcement raid at the Iyana-Iba axis of Lagos.

According to a statement issued by the agency, the operation targeted along the Lagos–Badagry Expressway corridor, including Festac First Gate, Mazamaza, and Iyana-Iba.

The Taskforce disclosed that several motorcycle operators, commonly known as okada riders, were found plying restricted routes and obstructing traffic flow along major highways. It added that some operators were allegedly involved in the transportation of illicit drugs and inflammable substances such as Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) to neighbouring countries.

The agency further noted that the activities of the operators constituted a nuisance and posed significant safety risks to road users across the affected areas.

“At the conclusion of the operations, a total of 70 commercial motorcycles were impounded, and sanity was restored across all affected locations,” the statement said.

The Taskforce reiterated its commitment to enforcing traffic regulations, stressing that all confiscated motorcycles would be forfeited to the state through the courts in line with the provisions of the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law.
