Echoes of Recent Crash as UK Returnee Dies in Lagos-Ibadan Expressway Tragedy

This incident comes barely three months after Anthony Joshua and two associates were involved in a similar crash along the same section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

A tragic road accident has now claimed the life of a woman who recently returned from the United Kingdom to attend a wedding in Abeokuta.

The fatal crash occurred on Monday evening near the Christopher University axis of the busy highway, according to the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, TRACE spokesperson, Babatunde Akinbiyi, said the accident happened at about 5:48 p.m. and involved a white Toyota Camry and a moving truck.

He explained that the vehicle, conveying three occupants—one male and two females—was reportedly speeding before ramming into the truck, leading to a fatal outcome.

“A fatal road traffic accident occurred at the Christopher University section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway at about 17:48 hours on March 23. According to eyewitness accounts, the driver of the Camry drove at excessive speed and rammed into a moving truck,” Akinbiyi stated.

He added that one female passenger died in the crash, while the other two occupants sustained injuries.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the two female victims had just arrived from the United Kingdom and were travelling from Lagos to Abeokuta for a wedding ceremony when the incident occurred.

The injured victims were rushed to Famobis Hospital and Redeemed Hospital for treatment, while the deceased was deposited at the Redeemed Hospital morgue.

TRACE commiserated with the families of the victims and warned motorists against excessive speeding, stressing the grave consequences of reckless driving.
