Odole Chieftaincy Dispute: Owa Obokun Palace Calls for Calm, Clarifies Court Order

Odole Chieftaincy Controversy: the stance of Owa Obokun Palace

The palace of Owa Obokun Adimula has urged the general public to remain calm following the dramatic events that unfolded at the Odole Chietaincy house yesterday in Ilesa, when a bailiff attempted to serve a writ of summons on High Chief Makanjuola Afolabi, who was installed as the Odole by His Imperial Majesty, Owa Clement Adesuyi Haastrup.

The installation of Chief Makanjuola as Odole followed  allegations of misconduct levelled against the ousted Mr. Bola Orolugbagbe by members of his own family among other people.

In a statement issued by the Chief of Staff to the palace, Barrister Dupe Ajayi-Gbadebo, the palace expresses concern with the hijacking of the routine Service procedures by the two ousted chiefs, who were accompanied by unsavoury-looking thugs and trumpeters who stormed the hallowed Adimula palace.

According to the statement, the people were mildly discharged by witty palace staff acting on the wise counsel and instructions of Owa to avoid fracas in the interest of peace.

Information also reached the Palace that the same unruly behaviour was exhibited by the team, this time, accompanied by Mr. Bola Orolugbagbe, who resorted to “self help” by breaking the doors of the Chieftaincy house of Odole, throwing away the furniture and fittings and thereafter installed himself as “Odole”.

The Palace hereby informs the general public that the Ex-parte interim order obtained by Mr. Orolugbagbe and served on the parties does not imply the reinstatement of Mr. Orolugbagbe, as Odole, but rather, grants him a hearing and maintenance of status quo, which remains that he is not in office as Odole, given that there is no specific reinstatement order.

His actions and conducts amount to deliberate attempt to mislead the public and cause crisis in Ijesaland.

In the suit filed at the Osun State High Court Ilesa, the respondents include the Executive Governor of Osun State, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ilesa West Local Government, HIM Owa Clement Adesuyi Haastrup, and Mr. Makanjuola Afolabi Alatishe.

The palace implores the people of Ijesaland to please maintain peace as the legal team of the palace is on top of the matter.

Obokun Agbe A O!
