Osun APC Says Adeleke Should Not Be Re-elected, Criticises Teachers’ Recruitment Exercise

The All Progressives Congress in Osun State has declared that Governor Ademola Adeleke should not be returned to office in the forthcoming governorship election scheduled for August 15, 2026.

In a press statement issued on March 8, 2026, and signed by the party’s Director of Media and Information, Mogaji Kola Olabisi, the opposition party criticised the administration of Adeleke, accusing it of poor governance, financial recklessness and controversial recruitment practices in the state’s education sector.

The party alleged that the governor’s administration has failed to deliver developmental projects commensurate with the state’s monthly federal allocation, which it claimed averages about ₦11 billion.

According to the APC, the state government has received more than ₦400 billion in federal allocations in the past 39 months but argued that the projects executed across the state do not reflect the level of income.

The opposition party also accused the Adeleke administration of operating an opaque system of governance, claiming that many government projects lack transparency regarding their cost and execution.

The statement further criticised the governor over what it described as acts of disregard for judicial decisions, particularly in matters relating to local government administration and chieftaincy disputes in several towns across the state.

The party cited communities such as Awo, Igbajo, Ikirun and Iree as examples of areas affected by what it termed controversial executive actions.

The APC also criticised the state government over the condition of the Osun State House of Assembly complex, alleging that lawmakers have continued to operate from hotels in Osogbo due to the ongoing issues with the assembly building.

Allegations Over Teachers’ Recruitment

A major highlight of the APC statement was its criticism of the recent teachers’ recruitment exercise conducted by the state government.

The party alleged that the recruitment process was unfairly distributed across local government areas and favoured the governor’s hometown of Ede.

According to the party, out of the 876 teachers reportedly recruited, 88 slots were allocated to Ede, while the remaining positions were shared among the other 28 local government areas and the Modakeke area office.

The statement further claimed that 48 positions were allocated to Ede South Local Government Area and 40 to Ede North Local Government Area.

The APC also alleged that some positions in the recruitment exercise were distributed through political patronage to government officials, lawmakers and party leaders.

Call for Change in 2026

Based on these allegations, the party insisted that the people of Osun State should vote for a change of leadership in the 2026 governorship election.

The APC expressed confidence that voters across the state would reject what it described as misgovernance and support the party’s candidate in the upcoming poll.

The statement concluded by reiterating the party’s position that the current administration has failed to meet the expectations of residents and that a new leadership is required to reposition the state.
