Osun Police Warn Against Forceful Takeover of Local Government Areas

‎The Osun State Police Command has warned individuals and groups against any attempt to forcefully take over the affairs or premises of local government areas in the state.

‎The warning was issued in a statement released on Monday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Ojelabi, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police (Election), CP Samuel Erale.

‎The command said it had received information about plans by some individuals or groups to take control of some local government areas despite the matter currently being before the court.

‎According to the police, any attempt to forcefully take over the local government areas would amount to self-help and could threaten peace and public order in the state.

‎“No individual, political group, or association has the right to resort to self-help or the use of force to assume control of any Local Government Area or public institution while judicial proceedings are ongoing,” Ojelabi said.

‎The police therefore called on all parties involved in the dispute to remain calm and patient while allowing the courts to resolve the matter.

‎The command stressed that nobody should take the law into their own hands, urging residents and political actors to respect the judicial process and avoid actions capable of causing tension or disrupting public peace.

‎The warning comes amid ongoing legal issues surrounding the leadership and administration of local government areas in Osun State.

‎The police assured residents that it would continue to maintain law and order and would not tolerate actions capable of threatening peace or public safety.
