Owa Obokun’s Palace Denies Endorsing Candidates for Ijesa Sports Club Election





The Palace of the Owa Obokun has clarified that it has not endorsed any candidate ahead of the forthcoming election of the Ijesa Sports Club.


The palace also urged members of the club to promote unity, mutual respect, and decorum as the election draws closer.


This was contained in a statement signed by the Chief of Staff to the Adimula Palace, Dupe Ajayi-Gbadebo, and made public by the palace media aide, Prince Isaac Haastrup.


According to the statement, the monarch, as the father of all, has not anointed any candidate, stressing that all aspirants have equal access to the palace both before and after the election.


Meanwhile, two prominent members of the club are currently seen as the leading contenders for the presidency. They include Otunba Jare Ayo-Martins, Managing Director of Uniq FM radio station who hails from Ile-Ife, and Erelu Adejumoke Olafadehan, an active management member of the Ijesaland Communities Development Assembly (ICDA) and a member of the Iwude Ijesa Planning Committee.


The election to determine the next President of the club is scheduled to hold on Saturday, March 14, 2026.


The palace, however, advised contestants and their supporters to refrain from smear campaigns and actions capable of causing division among members, urging them instead to uphold sportsmanship in the spirit of the club’s ideals.
