The Federal Government has approved a total sum of N48 billion for engineering upgrades across 12 selected universities nationwide, with the University of Ilesa, Osun State, emerging as one of the beneficiaries.
Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, disclosed the development on Monday during the inauguration of the Implementation Committee on Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) Special High-Impact Intervention Projects in Abuja.
According to the minister, each of the selected institutions will receive N4 billion to either upgrade existing engineering facilities or construct new state-of-the-art workshops where necessary.

Federal University of Technology, Akure
Federal University of Technology, Babura
Federal University of Technology, Ikot-Abasi
Federal University of Technology, Owerri

Enugu State University of Medical and Applied Sciences
University of Ilesa
Delta State University
Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University
Dr. Alausa further revealed that beyond the N48 billion allocation, an additional N20 billion has been captured in the 2026 TETFund guidelines to support the upgrade of engineering facilities in other selected universities across the country.

For the University of Ilesa, the intervention represents a major leap forward in its drive to strengthen engineering education and expand its infrastructure base. Stakeholders believe the funding will not only improve laboratory and workshop standards but also enhance research capacity, innovation, and student training in line with global best practices.
