‎Owa Obokun Hails Ijesa Golf Club House as Landmark of Unity and Progress ‎

‎The Owa Obokun of Ijesaland, Oba Clement Adesuyi Haastrup, has commended the completion of the Ijesa Golf and Country Club House, describing it as a landmark achievement that reflects the unity and progressive vision of the Ijesa people.

‎Speaking on Monday at the grand opening ceremony of the facility, the monarch noted that the impressive structure underscores the collective commitment of Ijesa sons and daughters to the growth and development of University of Ilesa.

‎He emphasized that the same spirit of unity was instrumental in the establishment of the university, which had long been a shared aspiration of the people.

‎The royal father further applauded the decision to locate the Ijesa Golf and Country Club within the university campus, stating that the facility would serve as a recreational hub for students, staff, and management, thereby enhancing the overall academic environment.

‎Also speaking, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Ijesa Golf and Country Club, Gbenga Onigbogi, explained that the project was delivered through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement. He disclosed that the club would manage the golf course for 27 years before ownership reverts to the university.

‎According to him, about 70 students are currently undergoing training to become professional golfers, adding that the university has applied to the National Universities Commission for approval to introduce golf as an academic programme.

‎Onigbogi further revealed that the University of Ilesa is now the first and only university in Nigeria to host a standard 18-hole golf course within its campus, describing the feat as both capital-intensive and environmentally demanding.

‎In his remarks, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Taiwo Asaolu, said the golf course and club house would significantly boost the institution’s visibility and enhance its development prospects. He called on stakeholders to sustain their support to ensure that academic excellence is matched with world-class infrastructure.

‎Earlier in his welcome address, the Captain of the Club, Dr. Kayode Olagunju, stressed the importance of attracting younger generations to the sport of golf, noting that the facility offers both social and economic benefits to Ijesaland.

‎The event attracted dignitaries, stakeholders, and members of the community, marking another milestone in the ongoing development of Ijesaland.
