Owoeye Emerges APC Consensus Candidate for Ilesa East Constituency

‎The immediate past Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Timothy Owoeye, has been adopted as the consensus candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Ilesa East State Constituency.

‎His emergence followed a stakeholders’ meeting held on Thursday in Ilesa, where party leaders and members unanimously endorsed his candidacy.

‎The motion for Owoeye’s adoption was moved by Babalola Kehinde, the APC chairman of Ward 9 in Ilesa East Local Government, and was widely supported by attendees.

‎Speaking at the meeting, a prominent APC leader in Ijesa South Federal Constituency, Kunle Odeyemi, said the decision was driven by the need to maintain stability and benefit from Owoeye’s extensive legislative experience.

‎Odeyemi expressed confidence that Owoeye’s return to the Assembly would bring significant growth and development to Ilesa East. He also appealed to other aspirants to support the consensus decision, noting that the choice was not due to a lack of capable individuals but a deliberate effort to sustain progress in the constituency.

‎Owoeye, a grassroots politician, began his political career as a Councillor representing Ward 10 in Ilesa East between 1999 and 2002. He was first elected into the Osun State House of Assembly in 2007 and went on to serve in several leadership positions, including Minority Leader (2007–2011), Leader of the House (2011–2015), and Majority Leader (2015–2019).

‎In 2019, he was elected as the 7th Speaker of the Assembly, a position he held until 2023.

‎The stakeholders’ meeting was attended by several notable party figures, including Tunde Faleye, Idowu Falade, Yele Akintola, Dosu Gidigbi, Sayo Abimbola, Akeem Olowoopejobori, Olowoofoyeku Ayotunde, Lanre Balogun, and Akinola Fowowe, among others.
