Tinubu to Unveil Six-Volume Book on Wole Olanipekun’s 50 Years in Legal Profession

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will on November 19 unveil a six-volume book documenting landmark legal cases handled by renowned Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Chief Wole Olanipekun, during his 50 years in the legal profession.

The book, titled Wole Olanipekun Through the Cases, highlights the contributions of the respected lawyer to the growth of Nigerian law through major cases he handled during his career.

The unveiling will take place at the WOC Justice Summit, organised by Wole Olanipekun & Co., a day after the lawyer celebrates his 75th birthday on November 18.

In a statement released on Monday, the law firm said the publication was produced to mark Olanipekun’s 50 years in the Nigerian legal profession. It explained that the book examines his career through important court cases that show his experience and contributions to the country's justice system.

The six-volume publication features contributions from retired judges, legal scholars, Senior Advocates of Nigeria and other legal experts.

It also contains forewords written by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, and the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN).

Olanipekun was born on November 18, 1951, and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1976. He became a Senior Advocate of Nigeria in July 1991.

He later served as Attorney-General of the old Ondo State in 1992 and became President of the Nigerian Bar Association in 2002.

Between 2022 and 2023, he also served as Chairman of the Body of Benchers, an important body responsible for maintaining standards and discipline in the legal profession.

The senior lawyer is currently the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the University of Lagos. He had earlier held similar positions at the University of Ibadan and Ajayi Crowther University.

He is also the Chancellor of Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, Ikere-Ekiti, his hometown.

During his long career, Olanipekun has handled several important cases that have influenced the development of Nigerian law.

One of his major legal roles was serving as lead counsel to four Nigerian presidents in court cases challenging their elections since 2007.

The new publication examines these presidential election cases and other important matters. It explains the legal arguments, court decisions and how the cases have helped shape the country's legal system.

The November 19 event is expected to attract top government officials, politicians, business leaders and leading members of the legal profession.

The WOC Justice Summit also provides a platform for lawyers, policymakers and other stakeholders to discuss ways to improve the justice system.

This year's summit is themed, “From Precedent to Possibility: The Lawyer’s Role in Shaping the Next Fifty Years of Justice, Democracy and Public Trust.”

Discussions at the summit will focus on how lawyers can help strengthen justice, democracy and public trust in government institutions.

The event will also celebrate Olanipekun’s 50 years in the legal profession and examine his contributions to Nigerian law and the justice system.
