INEC chairman arrives National Collation Centre
The INEC chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, has arrived National Collation Centre to resume the final phase of the collation of the 2019 presidential results.

The INEC chairman reconvened after a three-hour adjournment at the national collation centre.

"Good morning, ladies and gentlemen, finally we are here," Mahmood said.

He recalled that a number of issues were raised by party agents on the 2019 presidential election.

The INEC boss said the commission had promised to address the issues before the conclusion of the collation process of the collation of presidential election.

He said the commission had noticed that the figures of number of accredited voters were not adding up at the national level despite being adding up at the ward level or state level.

According to him, the commission's preliminary investigation shows that the incidences are not up to 2% of the total figures.

Also, he said the voter turn out for the 2019 presidential election is 36.56% despite the lack of voting in some polling units due to violence or refusal of the use of the smart card readers in the affected areas.

The INEC chief said with such observation the incidences cannot prevent the conclusion of the collation of the 2019 presidential election.

In an interjection, a former minister of aviation, Osita Chidoka of the PDP said there is a difference of 1,600,000 people missing from the voters register released by the commission before the election.

Chidoka further called for a careful consideration of the incidences raised while asking the commission not to go ahead with declaring a winner for the election.

He argued that there are over five million eligible voters whom the card readers must have failed.

In his response, the INEC boss said that the number of voters cancelled are deserved cancelled votes as the commission's review showed that there were deliberate circumvention of the use of the smart card readers in those places.

Further speaking, Mahmood said he will go ahead to announced the result of the presidential election result collated and make a declaration of the winner of the election.

He also said he is obliged to make a declaration of the total number of registered voters and votes cast at the polls.
