Young Man Commits Suicide After Killing His Mother

A young man identified as Gbenga Ayotunde, was found hanging from a tree in the early hours of Saturday in Oyinmo Quarters of Ikare Akoko in the Akoko North East Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The young man was said to have committed suicide in Ikare Akoko following the killing of her 57-year-old mother, identified as Mrs Ajimoh, in Akure, the Ondo State capital some few days ago.

The deceased was said to have taken to his heels after killing his mother over a heated argument which led to physical attack by the son, leaving the mother dead before help could reach her.

According to a source, Gbenga left Akure for Ikare to evade arrest over the killing of her mother and decided to hide in Ikare Akoko but he later decided to kill himself to avoid the wrath of the law.

He, however, said the residents of the area were surprised to see his body dangling in the middle of the night.

The incident was reported to the police who visited the scene and deposited his remains at the State Hospital morgue in Ikare Akoko.

The source explained that Gbenga’s mother who had divorced the father after three children remarried in Akure where she had two other children before the incident occurred.

The source said, “Gbenga, after killing his mother in Akure on Thursday, escaped to Ikare Akoko where he stayed with his grandmother at Oyinmo Quarters.

“When he suspected that efforts were being made to hand him over to the police, he sneaked into the kitchen at about 3 am on Friday night to hang himself while everybody in the house was asleep.

“It was a relation, who wanted to go to use the restroom in the morning that saw his lifeless body dangling and raised the alarm.”

Confirming the development, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr Femi Joseph, said police had begun an investigation into the matter.
