LIVE UPDATES: Day 2 of OSHA Screening of Osun Commissioners and Special Advisers Nominees 2/10/19)






Welcome to our live coverage of the screening of the 9 Commissioners/Special Advisers-designate.
The screening is holding at the hallow Chamber of the State of Osun House of Assembly at Osogbo, today 2nd October, 2019.

The State governor, Mr. Gboyega Oyetola had earlier sent the names of 35 nominees on Tuesday 24th September 2019.
The Osun House Of Assembly under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Timothy Owoeye has fixed the following dates and nominees for the screening.
Monday 30th September, Wednesday 2nd, Thursday 3rd and Friday 4th of October, 2019.

Ahead of the screening and possible confirmation of the Osun commissioner and special adviser nominees, the State of Osun House of Assembly has come out with names of 9 persons that are expected to appear before it on Wednesday 2nd October, 2019.
The nominees are:
1. Oladimeji Olanibi
2. Adewole Adedayo
3. Akande Oluwafemi Jimoh
4. Adeleke Yekini Adebayo
5. Olamiju A. Olasiji
Others are;
6. Yinusa Olaleka
7. Isamotu Rafiu Olasunkanmi
8. Adeosun Adegboyega Rasaq and 9. Tadese Amidu Raheem

The Speaker enters the chamber/National and State anthem were sung.

Appearance of Hon. Dr. Tadese Raheem a former Chief Whip of the 1st Assembly 1991-92.

The Majority Leader asked him that if given the portfolio as the commissioner for Education what will he do to advance the education standard of the State?

He responded by saying that Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola the past governor has laid a foundation to be followed. He further said that he would collaborate with other stakeholders to enhance the performance of Osun pupils.
The Speaker in his contribution said that improving on the Educational standard of the State is a major concern of the Assembly. He therefore, asked the nominee to take a bow and go.

Appearance of Akande Oluwafemi Jimoh a lawyer and the hierarchy apparent  of Chief Bisi Akande's family.

The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Timothy Owoeye would not allow members to ask him questions because Baba Akande has been  consistent since he has been in politics. He advised the nominee to maintain the continuity of the Good chain. He was allowed to take a bow and go.

Appearance of Hon. Oladimeji Olanibi.
The Speaker of the House identified him as a man of integrity, honor and a loyal party member. He advised him to continue in that trend and to use his position to continue to consolidate the party in his constituency. Noting that he has paid his first for the development of the State he was asked to take a bow and go.

1:45pm
Appearance of Prof. Yinusa Olalekan, a technocrat and an expert in Public Financial Management.

The honourable members representing Ede North and Ede South State constituencies eulogized the nominee as one of the prides of Ede land.

The Speaker asked him if the State of Osun 2019-2028 developmental plan is achievable without the development of Agriculture sector and what are the other innovations that can economic growth in the State?

The nominee responded that there is a robust agriculture sector strategy embedded in 10-year developmental plan and that Agriculture holds the key to the unemployment problems. He also identified the mining sector and intensification of Technical education to deliver values.

Appearance of Dr. Isamot Rafiu Olasunkanmi {Former Osun commissioner for Health}

How can the state generate revenue from the alternative medicine sector?
Responding, Dr. Isamotu said there is little the government can get from the alternative medicine sector but he is against the instances where practitioners claim that one medicine can cure many complicated illnesses.
How would you control excesses from those that will control the Public Health Centres?
Answering the above question, the nominee asserted that the government has already put a committee headed by an Executive Secretary in place to take charge.
What can you do to change the orientation of Osun people towards female child genital mutilation?
He said that the Osun Assembly had already passed a bill that prohibits female child genital mutilation in to law. There is a need to intensify efforts on community sensitization and enforcing the existing law.

Appearance of Adewole Adedayo {A pratical farmer}with the vision and mission to create and equip farm settlements with attached farmers' market and engage Osun youth in productive agricultural entrepreneurship. He contended that there are lots of opportunities in Nigeria and even the State of Osun agricultural policies but there is a problem of information dissemination. He therefore suggested an Agriculture Information Centre. He also identified the problem of farm products preservation resulting in excessive food wastage. He therefore proposed food processing and storage facilities.
He further suggested a revised soil map of the state so as to know specifically which agricultural product is suitable for each of our regions.

Appearance of Mr. Adeleke Yekini Adebayo from Iree is an eloquent political leader. The Speaker advised him to make sure that the ruling party {APC} continues to lead in his state constituency.

3:35pm
Appearance of Mr. Ajisefini Abiodun from Ikirun whose father was a great party leader.
In is response to question on bringing the ideas he has acquired in the business world into governance, he said that when he was called upon to serve, he came with the agenda to convert waste to wealth and to propagate the opportunities that are abound in information technology.

The appearance of Olamiju A. Olasiji (AKOL). A consultant community pharmacist from Esa-oke in Obokun LG. He was described as a loyal party member.

The Speaker announced that the screening exercise shall continue on Friday.
