It was a mixture of joy and happiness at the Ijesaland Geriatric Centre when Professor Mrs. Adenike Adeoye a distinguished Professor / Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon celebrated her 70th birthday with free eye surgery to over 20 aged and indigent persons as part of her ardent affection to fighting preventable blindness.
The event supervised by Dr. Atinuke Ajoloko was also to mark her retirement from active service to the College of Health Sciences of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-ife.
Our correspondent was at the Dr. Oluremi Olowu Ophthalmological/Dental Building where 22 patients were referred to the Olasupo Shadiya Theatre Complex where they had free cataract surgeries yesterday with good visual outcomes. 1 was 35 year old male, another 49 year old woman. Others were above 50 years.
