An official of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission attached to the Sokoto command of the commission was confirmed dead Tuesday.

The deceased, identified as Inspector Abel Isah Dickson, died from the injuries sustained during a scuffle that involved three personnel of commission over items recovered from a suspect.

Officials of the anti-graft agency, who were familiar with the matter, said the young officers were involved in the scuffle following the disagreement on the custody of items.

EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, who confirmed the incident to reporters in Abuja yesterday, said: “There was nothing like loot in this case, it was just a scuffle among the young officers.

“They had disagreed over procedures for the custody of items belonging to a suspect in detention, leading to a fight, a conduct which the commission frowns at,” he added.

According to him, the two suspects – Apata Oluwaseun Odunayo, an Assistant Superintendent of EFCC and Ogbuji Titu Tochukwu, Inspector of EFCC, had been arrested and handed over to police for further investigation and possible prosecution.

“The latest information is that a two count-charge bordering on criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide has been filed against them at a Chief Magistrate Court, Gwiwa in Sokoto.

“Both offences are punishable under Sections 60 and 191 of the Sokoto State Penal Code Law, 2019. Without prejudice to the Police investigation, they will in addition, face further disciplinary measures in line with the commission’s staff regulation.”
