A group under the aegis of alliance Irele farmers has called on the Government of Ondo State under the leadership of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to come to their aide over the illegal sales of their farmland.
The land was alleged to be sold by those who served under the past government of the late Gov Rotimi Odunayo Akeredolu.
According to a source under anonimity, Irele local Government has a total of 11,000 hecters of farmland because majority of the indigenes of the area are farmer’s.
However, it was noticed that one Surveyor Seyi and Mr Akinleye Fagbemi brought some group of people to occupy four thousands of land in the local government.
According the group, "our major means of livelihood depends on this farm lands, we have invested millions of naira in the cultivation of land in the camps and as a result, illegal sales of this land wil lead to drastic and irrecoverable lost for many of us in Irele local government.
"We are appealing to His Excellency, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to quickly swing into action in order to bring a stop to this illegal act perpetrated by one Surveyor Seyi and Mr Akinleye."
One of the farmer who who also spoke said “our major means of survival, since we don’t have access to Government works either at the federal, state or local government level, and we never want to participate in any illegal activities to earn our living, we appeal to Ondo State Government help secure our property from illegal sales, this will help continue our farming business peacefully and also to make our own contributions to the development of the state through our tax payments and other levels.”
