NHIA SENSITIZATION AND ADVOCACY: ICDA Takes Ijesa Elderly People Health Insurance Plan To ICG




 


In support of the Ijesa Communities Development Association (ICDA) commitment to provide improved health insurance coverage to more than 3000 elderly Ijesa men and women by registering them under the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) scheme, on Monday, 27th May, 2024 an advocacy cum sensitization of the initiative to the registered patients of Ijesa origin featured at the Ijesaland Geriatric Centre (IGC)





Not less than 1000 registered patients of IGC from different communities of Ijesaland  participated at an advocacy and sensitization meeting held at the centre's open field.


The interface meeting focused on proper implementation of the Ijesa Elderly people health insurance plan in Ijesaland as the IGC is one of the accredited centres of the NHIA scheme.





The President of ICDA, Asiwaju Yinka Fasuyi  and his Advocacy Team comprising of Chief Afolabi Igbaroola, Dr. Toyin Olalemi and Alagba Wale Idowu, were joined by the ICG and NHIA staff  for modalities to reach out to the ICG registered patients. 


Speaking during the visit, Asiwaju Yinka Fasuyi stated the need for the advocacy meeting saying that healthy persons need medical check-up as the aim of the ICDA is to make Ijesaland an exceptional Nigeria territory where age expectancy is high. 


"The average life expectancy in Nigeria is 55 to 56 years but we plan that no Ijesa man or woman should live for less than 100 years 


‘The Health insurance scheme is targeted at the elderly Ijesa men and women so as to have access to quality health care without financial constrain."

"Just as we did with the rural Communities through the Traditional Rulers", the ICDA president explained that the association is advocating for vulnerable Ijesa men and women of 60 years and above to register for free as patriot Ijesa sons and daughters have taken up the bill of insurance premiums of 3,500 people for the first one year.

Dr. Adeyemo Adekunle who led the NHIA team spoke extensively on the benefits of enrollment. 


"The enrollees will enjoy improved medical treatment through accredited NHIA medical centres that include the facilities of Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching in Ile-ife, Wesley Guild hospital, Ilesa, IGC and Comprehensive Medical Centre, Imesi-Ile.



"Other NHIA accredited facilities in Ijesaland are Adenle memorial hospital, Ilesa, Balm of Gilead Specialist Hospital, Oke-opo GRA, Ilesa, Daniel Adewole Awe medical center, Iwaraja, Alade medical center Orogba, Ilesa.and of course, all accredited medical facilities across the country." He remarked 




Dr. Adeyemo also  highlighted some of the registration protocols and package benefits of the program as he explained that the NHIA aimed at ensuring that every Nigerian had access to good healthcare services, saying the NHIA developed various programmes to cover different segments of the society.


The programme will provide the services that are within NHIA scope of coverage.


His presentation listed the following as benefits of the package; out-patient care and consumables, pharmaceutical care/prescribed drugs/diagnostic tests, eye care/examination plus the provision of low-priced spectacles, minor, intermediate, and major surgeries. Orthopaedics, General Surgery, ENT/Maxilofacial surgery, Dental surgery, neurosurgery, physiotherapy amongst others.


He also spoke on enrollee rights and registration protocols, such as right to freely choose his/her NHIA-accredited primary healthcare facility.


"The 10% co-payment paid by enrollees is the individual's commitment to the scheme." Dr. Adeyemo elaborated





The registration forms were distributed signifying the commencement of Ijesa Health Insurance Scheme piloted by Ijesa Community Development Assembly (ICDA) using the ICG as NHIA facility.
