Ijesa social identity envy in Osun calls for unity of purpose... Owa Ajimoko III says as he eulogizes Asiwaju Ijesaland led ICDA developmental initiatives

Owa Clement Adesuyi Haastrup, Ajimoko III, Paramount Ruler of Ijesaland on Wednesday remarked that Ijesa people as an entity in the southwest region and in particular in Osun State, Nigeria have been plagued by generations of jealousy and envy because of "our attributes of hardwork and path to success."

Owa Ajimoko III drew example of this phenomenon in his days as an active politician when he thought of contesting for the seat of the governor after he had served as a Deputy Governor of Osun State.

"There are groups, we call "Oyo" in Osun advocating against Ijesas and noticing these disparities is essential.

"I recall after being the Deputy Governor that I aspired to contest for the seat of the governor, one of my close confidants from the part we call "Oyo" hinted me that some people have met and decided that no Ijesa should rise to the position of governor in the state.

"We thank God that one of us has broken the jinx and this will not be the end." Owa Clement Haastrup said

"The point I'm trying to make is that we should unite". He remarked as he recognized that one of the few best decisions made by his predecessor, late Owa Aromolaran II, was to ordain the title of Asiwaju of Ijesaland. "The selection of Asiwaju Yinka Fasuyi is putting a round peg in a round hole.

"Asiwaju Yinka Fasuyi too has committed his time, energy and resources into taking up the challenge". Owa Ajimoko III pinpointed as he happily received the delegation of Ijesa Communities Development Assembly (ICDA) management team at his country home at Ilaje, Ilesa, Osun State.

Earlier, Asiwaju Yinka Fasuyi also in company of distinguished Ijesaland traditional rulers including Oba Samson Adeleke Agunbiade Oke, Ajalaye of Ipetujesa; Oba Michael Babatunde Adebiyi, Ado-oko of Ido-oko; Oba Agboluaje Omisade, Oloja of Ibodi; Oba Olufemi Agunsoye, Elegboro of Ijebujesa and Oba Kehinde Oyeleye, Ogboni of Ipole-Ijesa, had updated the Owa Ajimoko III on the development activities of the ICDA.

"The ICDA has introduced a novel and popularly acclaimed sustainable development model titled IJESA DEVELOPMENT FUND (IDF). This was presented to the public on Friday, 6th December 2024 at a meeting the ICDA had with the combined Oriade and Obokun LGAs Traditional Councils at Iloko-Ijesa.

"Today, I will throw more light on the IDF as we await the endorsement of His Imperial Majesty on this innovative, participatory, and all-inclusive development model where all the key stakeholders in Ijesaland such as the Traditional Institutions; Cathedrals and Churches; Mosque; Ijesa Societies; Ijesa Trade of Vocational Groups; Ijesa Markets; Ijesa Social Clubs; and Ijesa Youth Organisations have not only been sensitized to this new development concept but that they have ALL without exception overwhelmly endorsed IDF. It is our hope in the ICDA that after this presentation, His Imperial Majesty shall put his royal seal of endorsement for the operation of IDF in all communities in Ijesaland.

"In addition to the IDF, we are glad to brief His Imperial Majesty on another nascent programme introduced by the ICDA which is the Health Insurance Scheme for the indigent Elders in Ijesaland. In the year 2024, we enrolled 3,000 Ijesa Elders from the six LGAs in Ijesaland costing us a total sum of #45m.

"This Year 2025, arising from the astronomical increase in the annual premium from #15,000 per person in 2024 to #38, 868 per person, an Insurance Scheme which shall be costing us a whopping sum of N77,736,000." Asiwaju Yinka Fasuyi submitted in his presentation

After the Asiwaju Yinka Fasuyi's briefing, elated Owa Adesuyi Haastrup was quick to endorse the IDF initiative as he called on all Ijesa sons and daughters to actively participate in the scheme.

Other chiefs that witnessed the briefing were High Chief Saka Fapohunda, Ogboni of Ilesa; High Chief Olalekan Folorunso, Loro of Ilesa; Chief Lawrence Balogun, Losare of Isare; Chief Olaniyi Fatoye, Likoti of Ikoti and Chief Oladayo Oginni, Risa of Ijamo while the ICDA Management team included Rev.
