In a renewed effort to tackle youth unemployment and promote self-reliance through agriculture, the Ijesa Community Development Assembly (ICDA), in partnership with the Leventis Foundation Agricultural Training School, Imo, Ilesa, has empowered 38 young agripreneurs with non-refundable grants to support their ventures in various aspects of agribusiness.
The beneficiaries, all ex-trainees of the 2024 ICDA-Leventis Agricultural Training Programme, will channel the support into enterprises such as crop production, poultry, fishery, piggery, cassava, and plantain farming, among others.

During the official empowerment ceremony held on Wednesday in Ilesa, speakers took turns to emphasize the importance of discipline, focus, and accountability in managing the grants.
Representing the ICDA Chairman, Asiwaju Yinka Fasuyi, the Secretary of the Assembly, Reverend Lowo Adebiyi, alongside the Chairman of the ICDA-Leventis Partnership Committee, Chief Afolabi Igbaroola, urged the beneficiaries to avoid frivolities and ensure judicious use of the funds.
According to them, the beneficiaries will be required to sign a formal agreement to that effect, committing to responsible usage of the resources.
They warned that any individual found mismanaging the grants or failing to show tangible progress in their agribusiness would be blacklisted and denied future opportunities.
In his Remarks, The Principal, Leventis Foundation Agricultural Training School, Dr. Popoola Makinde praised ICDA’s proactive role in youth development, describing the initiative as rare among sociocultural organizations.

He encouraged the young entrepreneurs to stay focused, committed, and take full advantage of the opportunity presented to them.
Some of the beneficiaries, including Olapade Vincent, Adewusi Seyi, Emmanuel John, and Awogbami Faith, expressed heartfelt appreciation to both ICDA and the Leventis Foundation, describing the empowerment as a life-changing experience that will help them become self-reliant and productive members of society.
They pledged to make the best use of the support and contributing to agricultural development in Ijesaland and the nation at large.
Other ICDA Management members that were at the event included Alagba Wale Idowu, Chief Akin Olatunbosun and Mr Bukola Fadipe.
