A cocoa farmer in Gada village along Itagunmodi-Ijesa, Atakumosa West Local Government, Osun State has claimed that a middle-aged woman simply identified as "Iyawo Albert" has stolen cocoa pods from his farm.
In a video seen by KAKAKIOODUA on Ijesa TV Telegram platform, the woman was seen with a bag filled with cocoa pods allegedly harvested from the farm.
Further footage of the video showed "Iyawo Albert" confessing to the crime and admitting that her buyers are the cocoa beans merchant of the Sabo-Irojo, Ilesa Monday market.
KAKAKIOODUA can confirm that most of the farmers in Atakumosa East and West local government areas have their cocoa pods
stolen on a regular basis and some of them have been carrying out sleepless night watch over their plantations to avoid the stealing since rising cocoa prices have led to increased thefts of the commodity.
In the video the woman was flogged before being handed over to the security operatives to face charges ranging from stealing, destruction of cocoa plants amongst others.
