In a political development that is reshaping the landscape ahead of the 2026 Osun State governorship election, former Governor Isiaka Adegboyega Oyetola has urged all the governorship aspirants of the APC in the forthcoming gubernatorial election primaries in Osun State to embrace peace, and avoiding campaign of calumny, bitterness and politics of acrimony meaning that he is not contesting for the position again.
According to Max Weber on Leadership Qualities; "the leader must possess a certain charisma and responsibility to inspire followers. Oyetola's decision not only mark a turning point within the All Progressives Congress (APC) but it hailed by many as a strategic and selfless move, opens a new chapter in Osun State's political journey, one that shall be led by a fresh but familiar face. With the decision, the call with the APC to zone the party's ticket to Osun West Senatorial District has grown stronger, in the name of political balance, realigning party focus, and strategies toward the future.
Speaking during a crucial stakeholders' meeting some weeks ago in Osun, the Minister for Marine and Blue Economy, Alhaji Isiaka Adegboyega Oyetola remarked that, “We have qualified, quality, competent and people of outstanding track records as aspirants contesting for the governorship election and this is a unique selling proposition to feast on by all aspirants of the party," signaling a significant shift within the All Progressives Congress (APC) and opening the door for new leadership to emerge.
While the governorship election is less than a year now, the political climate is already heating up in Osun State. Party structures are being mobilized, consultations are ongoing, and expectations are rising. As APC considers it's next move, among the aspirants is a name gaining serious momentum is Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, AMBO, a technocrat, seasoned administrator, and respected son of the soil from Osun West Senatorial District. His entrance into the contest and political conversation has been described by many as a breath of fresh air for the state’s governance. His name has steadily become synonymous with integrity, service, and visionary leadership.
In the eyes of many party faithful and citizens of Osun, Bola Oyebamiji represents a credible, competent, and charismatic option. A man whose leadership could take Osun beyond politics of performance and towards genuine progress.
Following the word of a philosopher, Amartya Sen, "good governance requires leaders who understand the needs of their people and have the vision to transform those needs into reality," AMBO has previously served with distinction in various public capacities, is widely acknowledged for his integrity, discipline, and results-driven leadership style. Stakeholders see in him a competent and focused individual capable of steering Osun State towards sustainable development and economic progress.
Unlike the theatrics, controversial flamboyance and entertainment-focused approach that have defined the current administration under Governor Ademola Adeleke, AMBO is seen as a steady, cerebral, and focused figure. Many political observers believe he represents a needed return to substance over spectacle.
As a leadership expert and author, Robin Sharma put it, "leadership is not about a title or a designation. It is about impact, influence, and inspiration." AMBO is a man of the people, accessible, thoughtful, and deeply committed to humanity's development. His track record, both in governance and private enterprise, reflects a blend of modern thinking and traditional values, which is what Osun State urgently needs.
He is seen as someone who can bring about reform in critical sectors such as education, health, youth empowerment, and public financial management, areas where citizens have continued to express dissatisfaction.
Let me round up with the words of Carl Jung, "if all your martial decisions are based on your feelings, you will make lots of poor choices. Don't wait to feel right before you act right. As H.E. Gboyega Oyetola does not contest, this is a significant moment in the Osun political story. But even more significant is the question of who leads next. In Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji AMBO, people see not just a candidate, but a leader prepared to move Osun State forward beyond ceremonial populism, toward purposeful progress.
For the people of Osun, the time has come for purposeful leadership that prioritizes competence over celebrity, and vision over vanity.
