Asiwaju Olayinka Fasuyi, a leading advocate of the Ijesa Unity project, drew public attention last weekend with a noticeable change in appearance at the Iwude Ijesa Festival and Iwude Ijesa Unity Carnival.
The septuagenarian, widely known for his clean-shaven look, appeared at the events sporting a full beard, marking a rare and distinguished shift in his personal style. The new look came just weeks after Fasuyi marked his 70th birthday in October with a nine-day celebration.
Beyond the change in appearance, Fasuyi was visibly pleased as at the reception for HIM OWA Clement Adesuyi Haastrup at the Ijamo Quarters of Sawe Akinwande Akinola and as he watched the Iwude Ijesa Unity Carnival unfold—an initiative he has passionately promoted for over a decade. Observers noted his calm but fulfilled demeanor as more than 80 associations, Ijesaland traditional rulers, dignitaries gathered to celebrate Ijesa heritage and unity.
A prominent figure in Ijesaland’s socio-cultural advocacy, Fasuyi has remained consistent in his push for cohesion, cultural revival, and collective progress among the Ijesa people. His presence at the carnival, coupled with the successful execution of the event, underscored both the maturity of the unity project and his enduring commitment to the cause.
The Iwude Ijesa Unity Carnival has continued to grow in prominence, serving as a platform for cultural expression and renewed communal bonds across Ijesaland.
