Iwude Ijesa Unity Carnival Sets Ilesa Ablaze with Culture, Fashion & Royal Glamour.... ‎ ‎Eyewitness Report by Oladimeji Lasore ‎(PHOTOS)

‎I was present at the Ilesa Grammar School Sports Arena on Sunday, 21st December, 2025, and what unfolded before my eyes was nothing short of a cultural spectacle as the Iwude Ijesa Unity Carnival took center stage. The arena was already buzzing with excitement long before the programme began, in what seemed like "Ilesa refused to sleep" following the traditional Iwude Ijesa Festival held the previous day, Saturday, 20th December.

‎It was clear that this was more than a carnival—it was a powerful gathering of the Ijesa people in unity, pride, and celebration of heritage. The atmosphere was electric, with colourful canopies, rhythmic drumbeats, and a steady flow of music from live bands and DJ that kept the crowd fully engaged.

‎A moment that drew loud cheers and respectful silence all at once was the majestic arrival of His Imperial Majesty, Owa Clement Adesuyi Haastrup, Ajimoko III. The Owa Obokun Adimula arrived in grand style, flanked by his queens, Olori Victoria and Olori Omolara, and was warmly received by the people. The royal presence instantly elevated the mood of the carnival, as cameras flashed and traditional salutations filled the air.

‎Fashion was undeniably one of the highlights of the day. Everywhere I turned, there was a striking display of elegance and creativity. From coordinated aso ebi fabrics worn by clubs and societies to stylish modern outfits, the carnival grounds felt like a moving fashion gallery. The traditional rulers, including the Owa Obokun Adimula and other monarchs from across Ijesaland, stood out in their richly adorned regalia, radiating dignity and tradition.

‎I also witnessed the arrival of top dignitaries, including Osun State Governor, Asiwaju Senator Ademola Adeleke, who attended alongside members of his cabinet. The Governor's entourage caused a bit of a stir at the Iwude Ijesa Unity Carnival! Their arrival with a large crowd of supporters threw off the seating plan, and some people ended up blocking others' views. Despite the mini chaos, the vibe stayed lit and the event continued!

The presence of the Iwarefa-mefa, the revered kingmakers of Ijesaland, and other prominent traditional rulers further underscored the importance of the occasion.

‎One after another, about 75 registered clubs, societies, and legbelegbe age-groups took turns paying homage to the Owa Obokun Adimula. Each group came with its own unique cultural flair—songs, dances, coordinated attire, and symbolic gestures that reflected the deep-rooted traditions of the Ijesa people.

‎As an eyewitness, I must commend the Iwude Ijesa Planning Committee and its logistics subcommittee. Their meticulous planning was evident in the smooth flow of activities, seating arrangements, and overall coordination of the carnival.

‎By the time the event drew on, it was clear to everyone present that the Iwude Ijesa Unity Carnival was a resounding success. It stood as a proud reminder of the rich cultural heritage of Ijesaland and a strong statement of unity, continuity, and collective identity among the Ijesa people.
