AMBO Media Fronts Deny Link Between Oyebamiji and Half-Salary Regime, Defend Youth-Friendly Record

The Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO) Media Fronts has dismissed claims linking the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for the 2026 Osun State election, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, to the half-salary (modulated salary) regime previously implemented in the state.

In a statement issued on Monday, the media group described allegations made by the spokesperson to Governor Ademola Adeleke, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, as misleading and historically inaccurate. The spokesperson had reportedly accused Oyebamiji of being part of the half-salary policy and portrayed him as not being youth-friendly.

According to the AMBO Media Fronts, records show that the modulated salary regime began in June 2015, while Oyebamiji was appointed Commissioner for Finance in May 2017—nearly two years after the policy had already taken effect. The group argued that it was therefore illogical to describe him as an architect of a policy that predated his appointment.

The statement further noted that shortly after Oyebamiji assumed office as Commissioner for Finance, the half-salary regime was discontinued, and civil servants in Osun State resumed receiving full salaries, despite financial challenges confronting the state at the time. The media front described this development as evidence of Oyebamiji’s financial prudence and worker-friendly approach to governance.

The group also alleged that the individual responsible for designing the half-salary policy is currently serving as Chief Economic Adviser to Governor Adeleke, describing attempts to associate the policy with Oyebamiji as hypocritical.

Defending Oyebamiji’s record on youth welfare, the AMBO Media Fronts stated that during his tenure as Commissioner for Finance under former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, bursaries were paid regularly to Osun students, while school fees across primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions were kept at what it described as affordable levels.

In contrast, the group accused the current administration of imposing what it termed exorbitant school fees, particularly at Osun State University (UNIOSUN) and the University of Ilesa, where it claimed students now pay up to ₦1.5 million. It argued that such fees have placed public university education beyond the reach of many families.

The statement further alleged that despite earning close to ₦1 trillion in revenue over the past three years, the Adeleke administration has failed to ease the financial burden on students and parents. It also criticised the government over the dismissal of 1,500 teachers previously recruited under the Oyetola administration and alleged that more than 32,000 applicants were made to pay recruitment fees for teaching jobs that have yet to materialise.

The AMBO Media Fronts concluded by reiterating Oyebamiji’s commitment to youth welfare, access to education, and economic opportunities, describing these as central to his governorship agenda. The group expressed confidence that, if elected governor, Oyebamiji would prioritise policies aimed at securing the future of young people in Osun State.

The statement was signed by Adebayo Adedeji, Coordinator of the AMBO Media Fronts, and dated 12 January 2026.
