In his welcome address, the Chief Executive Officer of the hospital, Dr. Busayo Awe, expressed gratitude to God for the successful commissioning of the dialysis unit, describing it as a significant milestone in the hospital’s mission to deliver quality healthcare services. He noted that the medical centre, established in mid-2022, now employs about 50 staff and continues to expand its services to meet community needs.
Dr. Awe revealed that the dialysis unit is fully equipped with modern facilities and is supported by an Emergency Medical Services (EMS) ambulance designed to commence treatment from the point of patient pickup, describing it as the first of its kind in Nigeria. He thanked the board of management, healthcare professionals, and staff for their dedication and professionalism.
A presentation on the purpose, services, and expected impact of the dialysis unit was delivered by Dr. Ruth John, Medical Officer at DAAMC. She described the centre as a lifeline for patients living with kidney disease, noting that many residents previously had to travel long distances at great cost to access dialysis services.
According to her, the new dialysis centre will improve access to timely treatment, ensure early detection and intervention, provide specialized care, and enhance the quality of life of patients in Ijesaland, Osun State, and beyond.
Goodwill messages were delivered by several dignitaries, including the Elegboro of Ijebu-Jesa, Oba Engr. Olufemi Agunsoye, who praised Dr. Awe for his exemplary vision. The Asiwaju of Ijesaland, Asiwaju Olayinka Fasuyi, described the facility as one of the best in the country and highlighted its inclusion in health insurance schemes for the elderly in Ijesaland.
Other speakers, including Chief Akinwande Akinola, Very Rev. Obaba of Awomolo Methodist Church, and High Chief Hannah Bolanle Ojo (Yeyerise), testified to the quality of care received at the medical centre, while also appealing to the government to rehabilitate the road leading to the hospital from Iloko-Ijesa junction.
In his address, Governor Adeleke, speaking through the Commissioner for Health, highlighted the achievements of his administration in the health sector and emphasized the importance of public-private partnerships, noting that government alone cannot meet all healthcare needs. He assured the hospital management of continued government support and pledged to relay concerns about road infrastructure to the appropriate authorities.
The event featured a ribbon-cutting ceremony to officially open the dialysis unit and the emergency ambulance, followed by group photographs.
The vote of thanks was delivered by Mrs. Olayinka Awe, who appreciated guests and stakeholders for their support and presence at the historic occasion.
