Methodist High School @ 70: Okunmadewa Warns on Youth Preparedness, Alumni Unveil Landmark Projects ‎(PHOTOS)

‎A Professor of Agricultural Economics and retired World Bank Lead Specialist, Foluso Okunmadewa, has warned that Nigeria may face serious socio-economic challenges if its youths are not adequately equipped to succeed, stressing that a change in mindset remains the first step toward meaningful transformation.

‎Professor Okunmadewa gave the warning while delivering the anniversary lecture at the 70th anniversary celebration of Methodist High School, Ilesa. He urged young Nigerians to think differently, embrace innovation, and prepare strategically for the future.

‎The erudite scholar, who is also a member of the Ijesa Development Council, challenged old students of the institution to reflect on how they have benefited from the school system and consider ways to give back to support upcoming generations.

‎He commended Methodist High School and its alumni body for their enduring contributions to educational development, noting that the institution has played a pivotal role in shaping human capital and advancing the growth of Ijesaland.

OSAMETHSI Commended for Legacy Projects

‎In the same vein, the Archbishop of the Ilesa Archdiocese of the Methodist Church Nigeria, Akindeko Akinloose, lauded the Old Students Association of Methodist High School, Ilesa (OSAMETHSI) for its unwavering commitment to the development of the school.

‎The cleric gave the commendation during the commissioning of several landmark projects facilitated by different graduating sets of the association as part of the anniversary activities.

‎The projects include a state-of-the-art e-library valued at over N100 million, a well-furnished Corps Members’ Lodge, and two modern toilet facilities aimed at enhancing infrastructure and improving learning standards within the school.

‎Archbishop Akinloose remarked that through these interventions, the alumni association has “written its name into the future of generations yet unborn” by demonstrating sustained dedication to educational advancement.

‎He charged current students of Methodist High School, Ilesa, to emulate the spirit of excellence, discipline, and service exemplified by the old students, reminding them that today’s commitment will shape their future and position them to also give back to their alma mater.

Endowment Fund, Charity Initiative Underway

‎Meanwhile, the National President of OSAMETHSI, Architect Gbenga Akintola, announced that the Methodist High School Endowment Fund—designed to ensure the sustainable development of the institution—will soon be officially unveiled.

‎He further disclosed that the association will launch the OSAMETHSI Charity, a welfare-focused initiative aimed at catering to the needs and well-being of its members. Both initiatives are scheduled to be formally introduced during the gala and award night marking the school’s 70th anniversary celebration.
