The media team of Osun governorship aspirant, Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, popularly known as AMBO, has described recent criticisms from the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke as a sign of political panic ahead of the forthcoming governorship election in the state.
In a statement issued by its coordinator, Adebayo Adedeji, the AMBO Media Fronts accused the Osun State Government of resorting to propaganda rather than addressing questions about its governance record.
The statement was a response to earlier comments by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Olawale Rasheed, who reportedly listed several reasons the government believes Oyebamiji is unfit to govern the state.
According to the AMBO Media Fronts, the accusations were based on “half-truths, distortions and misinformation,” adding that the administration had failed to present any credible evidence of wrongdoing against Oyebamiji despite being in power for several years.
The group also claimed that the government was losing public confidence, citing the recent defection of two political appointees—Bishop Michael Adewale, a Special Adviser to the governor, and Hon. Adeboye Sikiru Akinyemi, Vice Chairman of Odo-Otin Local Government—to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to the statement, the defections were an indication of declining confidence in the Adeleke administration ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
The media group further defended Oyebamiji’s record in public office, stating that he revived the Osun Investment Company Limited (OSICOL) during his tenure as Managing Director by improving the company’s fortunes and diversifying its investments.
It also dismissed claims linking Oyebamiji to the sale of Omoluabi Holdings, stating that the transaction was supervised in 2013 by former Commissioner for Finance, Wale Bolorunduro, who currently serves as Economic Adviser to Governor Adeleke.
The statement also highlighted Oyebamiji’s tenure as Commissioner for Finance in Osun State, noting that he facilitated the payment of salaries and pensions and supported the implementation of the ₦30,000 national minimum wage in the state.
The group equally defended his time as Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), claiming that accidents and fatalities on waterways dropped significantly during his tenure.
Beyond defending the APC aspirant, the AMBO Media Fronts challenged the Osun State Government to provide explanations regarding its handling of public funds.
It specifically called on the administration to account for nearly ₦1 trillion in revenue allegedly accrued since 2022 and to clarify issues surrounding the reported purchase of 114 tractors for the state’s agricultural sector.
The group also questioned government spending on official travel, agriculture funding, gratuity payments, and the number of political appointees currently on the state payroll.
In addition, the statement raised concerns about tuition fees at University of Ilesa and Osun State University, claiming that some students reportedly pay up to ₦1.5 million per session.
The AMBO Media Fronts further urged the state government to clarify the appointment of two alleged relatives of Governor Adeleke as rectors of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree and Osun State College of Technology, Esa-Oke, as well as the reported provision of luxury official vehicles for them.
The group concluded that the allegations against Oyebamiji were politically motivated and insisted that voters in Osun State would ultimately decide the outcome of the governorship election based on performance and credibility.
As of the time of filing this report, the Osun State Government had not issued an immediate response to the claims made by the AMBO Media Fronts.
