A late evening fire outbreak has completely destroyed a storey building in Ilesa, leaving residents in shock.
The incident occurred at Imo area of the town, in a building located opposite Fasoro Junction and adjacent to the old Highway Hotel. Eyewitnesses said the inferno engulfed the structure rapidly, leaving nothing salvageable.
Residents and passersby reportedly made frantic efforts to contain the blaze, but their attempts proved unsuccessful. The situation was worsened by strong evening winds, which fueled the spread of the fire.
Notably, there were no visible signs of personnel from the Osun State Fire Service at the scene, according to available footage reviewed by this publication. It remains unclear whether attempts were made to alert emergency responders or if any response was delayed.
As of the time of filing this report, the cause of the fire had not been determined, and there were no immediate reports of casualties.
Authorities are yet to release an official statement on the incident.
