OAUTHC Invites Patients for Specialized Liver, Pancreatic and Biliary Surgeries Ahead of Transplant Programme

The Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex (OAUTHC), Ile-Ife, Osun State, has announced plans to commence activities leading to liver transplantation, with a call for suitable patients requiring advanced hepatobiliary surgeries.

In a press release issued on March 6, 2026, the hospital disclosed that it will host specialist surgeons from the United States and Canada between April 7 and April 11, 2026, as part of preparations for the programme.

During the week-long visit, the team will carry out complex liver, pancreatic and biliary surgeries using high-tech surgical equipment supplied by ERBE Elektromedizin, a German medical technology company.

The initiative is being organized in collaboration with the National Institute for Cancer Research and Treatment (NICRAT), the Nigerian Cancer Society (NCS), and the Ministerial Committee on Liver Transplantation.

The hospital is therefore appealing to medical practitioners to refer patients diagnosed with resectable liver, pancreatic or biliary cancers who are in good clinical condition for possible surgery.

According to the release, all referred patients must present a triple-phase chest and abdominopelvic contrast CT scan as well as an abdominal MRI for proper evaluation.

Patient selection will take place during the hospital’s regular clinics scheduled for March 19, March 26 and April 2, 2026.

Lead surgeon for the programme, Olusegun Isaac Alatise, also encouraged referring surgeons to participate in the surgical procedures.

The hospital further urged stakeholders in the medical community to widely circulate the information in order to reach eligible patients who may benefit from the specialised treatment.
