Nigeria’s Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, has expressed strong confidence that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will reclaim power in Osun State in the forthcoming governorship election scheduled for August 15, 2026.
Oyetola made the declaration on Sunday during the annual Ileri-Oluwa special Ramadan lecture held at his residence in Iragbiji, located in Boripe Local Government Area of the state.
The former governor of Osun State attributed the party’s optimism to what he described as the verifiable track record, unprecedented achievements, and lasting impact of previous progressive administrations in the state.
According to him, the party’s chances of victory are further strengthened by the tireless efforts of its members who, he said, have been engaging with youths, artisans, professionals and grassroots communities, particularly rural dwellers, in preparation for the election.
He commended party members for their commitment and urged them to sustain the momentum in order to secure victory at the polls.
Oyetola also took a swipe at critics and political opponents, stating that those he described as political traducers would soon “receive a red card.”
The minister noted that the APC has maintained unity, peace and harmony among its members since the 2022 election, adding that no amount of political rhetoric, propaganda or self-promotion by opponents would prevent the party from returning to government.
“Our confidence is rooted in our hard work, creditable performance, and the acceptability and popularity of our party among the people,” he said.
He further used the Ramadan gathering to call for peace, unity and unconditional love among party members and the wider public. He also advised Muslims to remain committed to righteous conduct during the holy month, warning against actions that could invalidate their fasting before Allah.
In his lecture, the guest speaker, Muhammad Jamiu Sanusi, emphasized the importance of strict adherence to Islamic teachings and urged Muslims to be their brother’s keeper.
Speaking on the topic “Humanity in Leadership: Islamic Principles of Governance and Loyalty,” the cleric stressed the need for equity, fairness and justice in leadership, while encouraging wealthy individuals to use their resources to support humanity and promote their faith.
The event drew prominent political and religious leaders from across the state and beyond. Islamic clerics at the gathering were led by the Chief Imam of Osogbo and Grand Imam of Osun State, Musa Animasahun.
